THIEN LONG – A VIETNAMESE BRAND WRITING THE STORY OF SUSTAINABILITY
At the “Vietnam Moment” Forum organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Peace and Development Foundation (HPDF) – gathering nearly 500 Vietnamese experts and intellectuals from 42 countries – Ms. Trần Phương Nga emphasized the company’s Vietnamese values and sustainable vision.

Small but mighty – Thien Long’s inspiring brand story
According to Ms. Nga, each year Thien Long produces one billion “small but mighty” products serving millions of Vietnamese. Many of them are so familiar that they have earned the affectionate title “national product,” such as the TL-027 pen.
Behind the 9-gram pen lies significant investment in brainpower, technology, and dedication. Nearly 20 years ago, Thien Long solved the tough technical challenge of achieving an ultra-fine 0.5mm line without ink clogging. The design had to be absolutely precise, with no excess parts. Today, this ballpoint pen remains widely used and is lovingly known as “the national ballpoint pen.”
"A true national product must not only be affordable enough to serve even underprivileged students, but also be extremely safe, as students often have the habit of chewing pens. Attention to detail is reflected in even the smallest aspects – for example, some capped pens have small holes in the cap to prevent suffocation if a young user accidentally swallows it," Ms. Nga shared passionately.
From these Vietnamese values, Ms. Trần Phương Nga expressed Thien Long’s ambition to continue writing its sustainability story. Through the dedication and intellect of the Vietnamese people, Thien Long has created pens tied to school memories of generations, proudly becoming a part of the childhood of three generations of Vietnamese.
Accompanying the nation’s economic growth
Over nearly 50 years – almost the same age as Ho Chi Minh City – Thien Long has been closely linked to the country’s economic development. From a small ballpoint pen workshop with 20 workers in 1981, Thien Long has continually innovated and grown into a leading group in the manufacturing of learning tools and stationery in Vietnam.
Through milestones such as its transformation into a limited liability company in 1996, equitization in 2005, and listing on the stock exchange in 2010, Thien Long has proven the perseverance and contributions of Vietnamese enterprises to national development.
With aspirations to reach the global market, Thien Long not only develops alongside the country but also contributes to bringing a Vietnamese brand to the world, now present in 71 export markets.
Ms. Nga further shared: "Our export revenue still accounts for a modest share of Thien Long’s total revenue. However, we keep striving globally because pursuing international standards and serving demanding markets is how Vietnamese businesses refine themselves, set global benchmarks for themselves, and bring world-class products to Vietnamese people."

Sustainability has always been one of Thien Long’s strategic priorities. With a long-term vision, the Group not only produces high-quality products but also focuses on its impact on education and the environment.
